Dr. Adelman is a board certified adult psychiatrist with over 25 years of clinical experience in diverse practice settings including outpatient clinics, day treatment programs, acute care inpatient facilities, state and county hospitals, and inner city psychiatric emergency rooms. He is a Clinical Instructor at Boston University School of Medicine. He obtained his B.A. in the Biological Basis of Behavior from University of Pennsylvania and his M.D. from Temple University in Philadelphia. He completed his psychiatry residency training at the University of California in Los Angeles, where he was also the chief resident of the consultation-liaison service. After residency he moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan where he was a Lecturer at the University of Michigan Medical School and directed their inpatient Mood, Personality and Eating Disorders programs, served as the medical director of the Chelsea Hospital Older Adult Recovery Program (one of the few day treatment programs in the United States specializing in geriatric substance abuse) and was a founding member of the Michigan Comprehensive Gender Services Program. In 1996 he moved to the Boston area and since then his experience has included Lahey Clinic, the North Charles Foundation, University of Massachusetts Medical School and the Department of Mental Health. He joined Square Medical Group in early 2018. In addition to his practice at Square, Dr. Adelman is on the medical staff of Bournewood Hospital where he had over 10 years experience directing their Adult Dual Diagnosis Partial Hospital Program. He is also a consultant for Cambridge Psychiatric Services and the Right Turn Intensive Outpatient Program in Watertown. At Square, he focuses on the psychopharmacologic treatment of addictions, mood disorders, anxiety disorders and dual diagnosis conditions. Dr. Adelman is certified to provide buprenorphine treatment (MAT) and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), and accepts most commercial insurance plans as well as MassHealth plans and Medicare.
